Meaning

The Leftwards thumb sign emoji is a gesture for pointing something out to the left. In a message, it can direct someone's attention to a link, image, option, or earlier part of a conversation, especially when the layout makes the direction clear. You might use it beside a choice to say "this one," or in a reply to indicate which item you mean without spelling it out.

Its tone is usually casual and practical, though it can feel playful when used to draw attention to a joke or surprising detail. The emoji can also suggest moving or looking left, but it does not automatically mean approval; a thumbs-up gesture is a different message. Because "left" depends on how content is arranged on someone's screen, pair it with a few words when the reference might be unclear. For example, "The second photo is better" makes the gesture more useful than sending it on its own.
